Scientific Computing and Differential Equations: An Introduction to Numerical Methods, is an excellent complement to Introduction to Numerical Methods by Ortega and Poole. The book emphasizes the importance of solving differential equations on a computer, which comprises a large part of what has come to be called scientific computing. It reviews modern scientific computing, outlines its applications, and places the subject in a larger context. This book is appropriate for upper undergraduate courses in mathematics, electrical engineering, and computer science; it is also well-suited to serve as a textbook for numerical differential equations courses at the graduate level.* An introductory chapter gives an overview of scientific computing, indicating its important role in solving differential equations, and placing the subject in the larger environment* Contains an introduction to numerical methods for both ordinary and partial differential equations* Concentrates on ordinary diff

Easy alphabetic shorthand method, but terrible text. I had 3 days, choose 3 hikes based on book. This book will be an adventure for readers interested in the greatest problem us at the outset of the 21st century: how can the poorest people in the world live better lives?. The 99-page Mathematics area includes: 41 pages of Multiplication and Division, 9 pages of Number and Operations in Base 10, 11 pages of Number and Operations - Fractions, 25 pages of Measurement and Data, and 7 pages of Geometry. The author also discusses the important concept of stability in this chapter. You can't help feeling the intensity, courage, joy and sadness of the characters. I became a teacher after a career in engineering and have found myself doing some informal coaching of our track team. Both are called into service to help seal the exposed reactor. Things don't turn out quite the way he expects them to, as happens in life. I was a bit disappointed in the book. The flavor of that whole world comes thro
