I tried The Alli Diet Plan years ago but I didn't read the book. Had these governments been democratically accountable, they would have responded more quickly and forcefully to boost employment and otherwise cushion the impact of the crises on the poorest members of their societies.
Sen, the winner of the 1998 Nobel Prize in economic science, has aimed this work at a general audience. This book is an evaluation of rail lines once used and now abandoned and how they will come back into use in the future as real estate becomes more expensive and difficult to locate. The flavor of that whole world comes through so clearly. However, it was too much. Although less than 15 miles long, the Middletown and Unionville railroad served its upper New York State communities for over 100 years. It's a required college text. With that being said, I believe this book could have been tightened up a little bit (from 400 pages to maybe 250-300). The best WWI personal story. Well-worth reading.. When
