Structural colorations originate from self-organized microstructures, which interact with light in a complex way to produce brilliant colors seen everywhere in nature. Research in this field is extremely new and has been rapidly growing in the last 10 years, because the elaborate structures created in nature can now be fabricated through various types of nanotechnologies. Indeed, a fundamental book covering this field from biological, physical, and engineering viewpoints has long been expected. Coloring in nature comes mostly from inherent colors of materials, though it sometimes has a purely physical origin such as diffraction or interference of light. The latter, called structural color or iridescence, has long been a problem of scientific interest. Recently, structural colors have attracted great interest because various photonic architectures, now developing in modern technologies, have been spontaneously created in the self-organization process and have been extensively used as o
Editorial : The writing is clear, sophisticated and professional, but at the same time personal and accessible this book really is comprehensive, presenting basic background information, detailed descriptions of the systems and of the techniques used to study them, and challenges and opportunities for future directions of research and study. --Helen Ghiradella, Professor of Biological Sciences, PhD, University of California, Santa Barbara
So far this term we've just been in the beginning chapters, as soon as we moved to the back of the book the pages fell out. This is an AMAZING conclusion to the Beyonders series! Definitely my favorite book of the trilogy! And my 11-year-old son's too! He was gasping, laughing, shouting, and just plain loving this book!. There is just so much to do in this book that your child should not get bored at all and they will tone their skills and keep them sharp during the Summer vacation.
The subjects covered in this workbook are as follows:
Reading Foundations, Spelling and Vocabulary, Grammar & Mechanics, Reading, Writing, Multiplication & Division, Number & Operations in Base 10, Fractions, Measurement & Data, Geometry, Life, Earth, Space & Physical Sciences, Community.
Quite impressive and the book is 7/8" in thickness and is weighty. This sounds like a great idea until her previous owner comes to drop her off with "the list". After the workday is over, w
